Three Things I Learned at my First HTG Mtg


I am just back from two very enjoyable days at my first my HTG Vendor Group meeting in Denver. I came in with high expectations, but they were clearly exceeded. Here is what I learned.

1. HTG is all about accountability.

Make no mistake. Just because we are vendors, this is the real HTG. With Arlin as our facilitator, we are all are being asked to keep up the same high standards that define the HTG Way. Before the meeting, each of us of was tasked with outside preparation and “homework.” Since people felt accountable to their peers, everyone showed up ready and eager to share.

2. HTG is a wake-up call.

Where is your event marketing system?


Solution providers sell a relatively complicated product. Most of the time, you are selling a relationship or ongoing managed service. In most cases, the client will need to make a multi-month or multi-year commitment. This means that on average, the sales cycle is longer and potentially more complex. You ain't selling widgets.

Therefore, lead generation is key.

Leads are the life blood of the selling effort. It all begins with a lead.
